Berm Clean Up

Another large and much needed project at the shelter today. The overgrown cedar bushes were removed today. They were getting to be a maintenance issue and so Jeff Short removed them with a mini excavator. We hope to landscape this burm so it will be easier to take care of and look better for the shelter and forever home cemetery.
Dog Isolation Addition & Shelter Improvements

The Humane Society of Logan County undertook a significant facility improvement project to better protect the health, safety, and capacity of animals in its care. This project focused on expanding and modernizing the shelter’s isolation capabilities, along with key upgrades to existing dog housing areas. Previously, the shelter operated with a single, small isolation room shared by both dogs and cats. This limited space often restricted intake capacity, sometimes allowing only one dog and a few cats to be isolated at a time. Animals entering the shelter frequently require isolation for 10–14 days to receive vaccinations, medical care, and monitoring before safely joining the general population. To address this critical need, the Humane Society developed and constructed a dedicated isolation addition. The expansion added approximately 400 square feet of new space, allowing for separate isolation rooms for dogs and cats. These areas include dedicated HVAC systems designed to prevent the spread of illness and improve overall animal health. The project also introduced key improvements to functionality and staff safety. The new isolation areas include running water, which was not previously available, and provide better protection from weather for staff and volunteers caring for incoming animals. In addition to the isolation addition, the shelter has undertaken upgrades to its existing dog kennel area. Original chain-link kennels, installed when the shelter opened in 2011, are being replaced with modern stainless steel enclosures that are more sanitary, durable, and compliant with updated Illinois Department of Agriculture standards. This combination of expansion and renovation has significantly increased the shelter’s ability to care for animals. The improvements allow the Humane Society to take in more animals, provide safer quarantine practices, and reduce the risk of disease transmission within the facility. The project has been made possible through community support, fundraising efforts, and grant funding, reflecting the strong commitment of Logan County residents to improving animal welfare.
Cat Isolation Room Upgrades

Eaton Corporation awarded HSLC a grant that allowed us to redo the Isolation Room. The funds allowed us to refinish the floor, purchase the new isolation kennel and purchase warming blankets for kittens in foster care. Hall Painting Services also helped HSLC by repainting the isolation room so that the whole room would be clean and brand new. The cherry on top was a beautiful recognition sign made by Small Town Creations. We would truly like to thank our local businesses: Eaton Corporation, Hall Painting Services and Small Town Creations for making our isolation room complete!
