Shelter Remodel
Beginning Spring 2025, the existing dog area will be updated. When the shelter opened in 2011 the kennels were constructed of chain link, which rusts and harbors bacteria. The Illinois Department of Agriculture now mandates the kennels be "made of materials impervious to urine and water and be able to withstand damage from gnawing and chewing". The new kennels will be stainless steel and the floor will be repaired and sealed.
Funds raised through our 2025 Membership Campaign and a generous grant from Sally Lorraine Vaughan Irrevocable Charitable Trust will be designated for this remodel.

With community help,
In late 2023 we were able to complete expansion of our shelter to care for an estimated 30% more animals yearly.
Separate Isolation Rooms
Our previous isolation room was small and held both dogs and cats together. We were often at capacity and had to turn away animals. Now we have more room!
More Kennels
This allowed us to take more animals. Incoming animals are often not vaccinated and must be separated from rest of our animal population until fully vaccinated, which we do first thing upon arrival.
Building Expansion
We added 400 square feet to allow for separate dog and cat isolation rooms with dedicated HVAC to keep our population healthy. Expansion also provided a much safer and secure way to get dogs into the outdoor runs.
