About HSLC

MISSION STATEMENT

The Humane Society of Logan County is committed to the prevention of cruelty, abuse and neglect of animals through its adoption program, cruelty investigation, spay/neuter assistance program, and humane awareness and education.

NOT-FOR-PROFIT ORGANIZATION

On April 14, 2006 the Humane Society of Logan County was chartered as a not-for-profit (501c3) organization.  The Humane Society of Logan county does not receive federal, state, or local tax dollars.  In addition to nominal annual membership dues and fund raising activities, the HSLC relies heavily on donations from individuals, foundations, and corporations who also have a commitment to animal welfare.  All donations are tax deductible. The HSLC does not belong to any national organizations so 100% of all donations are used for animals of Logan County.

HSLC has a membership of over 200 individuals.  All of these individuals support the organization financially and many volunteer as personal schedules allow.

PURPOSES

The purposes of the Humane Society of Logan County are to

  1. prevent cruelty, abuse and neglect of animals;
  2. promote proper placement (adoption) of animals;
  3. work toward the solution of overpopulation of animals; and,
  4. educate the public about humane treatment of animals.

PROGRAMS

HSLC does not have an animal shelter at this time and is limited in what it can do to shelter animals.  However, if you need help, call 217-737-4042.  We will do whatever is possible to help.

The following programs have begun as small manageable programs and will expand as finances and volunteers allow.

  1. Adoption Program
  2. Spay / Neuter Clinics
  3. Foster Care Program
  4. Education Program
  5. Cruelty Investigation Program

The HSLC believes that the key to animal overpopulation is spaying and neutering.  There are not enough homes for all of the stray animals in Logan County.

ANIMAL SHELTER

HSLC does not presently have an animal shelter.  We have received $200,000 from the Hoelscher Trust and are planning the construction of a new shelter during the spring of 2010.

Our intention, once we have constructed an animal shelter, is to acquire animals from Logan County Animal Control (the tax supported animal welfare organization) that are adoptable but are scheduled to be euthanized and continue to work for their adoption.

We will be a low kill shelter.  This means we will euthanize animals only in extreme situations involving serious illness or injury, when it is determined that such action is the most humane treatment.

BUSINESS HOURS

The HSLC has no established hours because presently we have no shelter.  Please contact us at 217-737-4042 if you have any question or seek assistance.
