June 2007
Our mission is the prevention of cruelty, abuse and neglect of animals through its adoption program, cruelty investigations, spay/neuter assistance program, and humane awareness and education.
Following are some of the things we’ve accomplished in our first year and an update on plans for the future.
Established by-laws and procedures for the organization; applied for and received status from the IRS as a not-for-profit 501(c)3 charitable organization on April 14, 2006.
Received a major bequest from the Ethel D. Hoelscher Trust, as seed money for the organization and for the construction of a permanent and true animal shelter.
Recruited a membership of 229 people who want to see progress in animal welfare in our area.
Worked to bring the mission and presence of the Humane Society to the attention of the public by participating in numerous fundraising events, assisting families with spay/neutering of pets, and providing foster care and adoption of animals.
Investigated instances of animal cruelty, which helped to change the living situation and outcomes for numerous animals.
Are actively seeking a site for a permanent shelter and have toured ten facilities and lots in our search.
We plan to continue recruiting members and increase the amount of money received to support our mission. We do not receive any federal, state or local tax dollars. The HSLC relies heavily on donations from individuals, foundations, and corporations. We hope to find the site for our permanent shelter and begin building and/or renovating within the next year.
We are currently in need of those who would be willing to be a foster home. There is a simple application that can be obtained by contacting us at (217) 737-4042. We also need donations to help cover the costs of animals in foster care, such as food, supplies, vet bills and advertising in local newspapers.
We want to thank the community for your past and continued support of our mission. For more information, you can contact the Humane Society of Logan County at P.O. Box 404, Lincoln, IL 62656 or visit our website at www.hslclincoln.org/.
