About HSLC

Our History

The Humane Society of Logan County is a shelter for homeless animals in Logan County, Illinois.  In April 2006 the HSLC was chartered as a not-for-profit (501c3) organization and operated as a foster-based shelter. In May 2011, through a very generous gift of 2.5 acres of land and community support, we had our groundbreaking. In September 2011, our physical shelter opened and continues to make strides in animal welfare every day.  That same community support not only opened our doors but also keeps us going.  HSLC is supported by a board of directors, an amazing team of dedicated volunteers, and one part-time animal care coordinator.

As a not-for-profit animal welfare organization, HSLC does not receive federal, state, or local tax dollars. In addition to nominal adoption fees, HSLC relies heavily on donations from individuals and corporations who also have a commitment to animal welfare, and fundraising activities.

The HSLC is grateful for the community support and volunteers who dedicate countless hours each year. Through our adoptions, food pantry, veterinary assistance program, and partnership with APL for a low-cost spay/neuter program, we are fortunate to make a difference in the lives of animals and families in Logan County.
